New research shows evidence of the deadly fungal pathogen Pseudogymnoascus destructans as highly sensitive to UV light. We encourage all of our colleagues, friends, and fellow researchers to read the new publication available here from the press release:

Palmer, Jonathan M.; Drees, Kevin P.; Foster, Jeffrey T.; Lindner, Daniel L. 2018. Extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet light in the fungal pathogen causing white-nose syndrome of bats. Nature Communications. 9(1): e00148-.

Dear friends and loyal customers,

The Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO) is happy to share the news of our recent purchase of the inventory and operations of Avinet, Inc., along with our intention to continue business operations under the management of Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI). On behalf of both AFO and BRI, we are very pleased to continue the work of Avinet to provide high quality research supplies to researchers across the globe, including mist nets made in the United States.

AFO is grateful for the hard work and dedication of the Avinet staff over the past 29 years of service to the research community. Whether locating a difficult to find research tool or customizing a hand-made mist net for a specific project need, Avinet has always placed the needs of researchers first.

Over the coming months, we will transfer the operations and mist net production to BRI’s facility in Maine, and combine Avinet activities with AFO’s existing Avian Research Supply (ARS) business. As we work through the process of managing this transition, we wish to assure all Avinet and ARS customers that our commitment to serving your needs is our top priority.

Please be advised that the transition period may result in net shortages and longer lead times for this upcoming field season. We ask for your patience and understanding during this time, and we will do everything we can to reduce the impact to our valued customers.

Whenever possible, we intend to be proactive, and reach out to our existing customer base, individually, to communicate further and to reinforce our dedication to working with you as closely as possible.

Thank you for your loyalty and best wishes for a successful 2017!
